Xinhua (Beijing), October 18 — The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee held a meeting on October 18. It examined the issue of comprehensively summarising the major achievements and historical experience of the Party’s century of struggle. General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, Xi Jinping, presided over the meeting.

The meeting decided that the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee would be held from November 8 to 11 in Beijing.

The Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee listened to a situation report on the limited-scope consultation within and outside the Party on the draft Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the Major Achievements and Historical Experience of the Party’s Century of Struggle. The Political Bureau decided that the draft resolution will be submitted to the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee for consideration after it has been amended in accordance with the views expressed during the discussions at the meeting.

The meeting was of the view that the [aforementioned] consultation process manifested democracy, pooled collective wisdom, and listened extensively to the views and suggestions of those both inside and outside the Party.

General Secretary Xi Jinping had presided over a forum attended by [select] representatives from outside the Party. He heard in person the views of the heads of the [eight] democratic parties and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and the representatives of figures without party affiliation.

All regions, all departments, and all sides, as well as delegates of the 19th Party Congress, have fully affirmed the draft resolution, and unanimously supported its framework, structure, and key content. They deemed the draft resolution factual, respectful of history, thematic, and comprehensive as a summary. At the same time, they put forward numerous good views and suggestions. The draft resolution has incorporated the views and suggestions of all regions, departments, and sides.

The meeting pointed out that for over a century, the Communist Party of China has faithfully carried out its original mission. It has united and led the people of all ethnicities in the country to paint a magnificent picture in the history of human development on the vast expanse of China.

The Party made the Chinese people - who have suffered slavery and bullying for more than a century in modern times - stand up. It made the Chinese nation - with more than 5,000 years of civilization history - move towards modernisation in a comprehensive manner. It made the socialist ideology - with a history of more than 500 years - open up a successful path in the most populous country in the world. It made the new China catch up with the times with great strides, and it made the future bright for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The meeting stressed that during the course of the Party’s long struggle, the Chinese communists, represented by comrades Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, and Hu Jintao, united and led the entire Party and people of all ethnicities across the nation. Significant achievements in revolution, construction, and reform had been made, and valuable experience had been accumulated.

Since the 18th Party Congress [in November 2012], the Party Central Committee, with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, has united and led the entire Party and people of all ethnicities across the nation and made significant new achievements and accumulated new valuable experience. [Under its leadership, we] have demonstrated clearly the powerful vitality of socialism with Chinese characteristics; unified and invigorated the Party, the military, and the people to an unprecedented degree; and increasingly consolidated China’s international status. [We] have provided a more complete institutional guarantee, a stronger material foundation, and a more proactive spiritual [and moral and ideological] impetus for the realisation of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The Communist Party of China and the Chinese people have solemnly proclaimed to the world with their heroic and tenacious struggle that the Chinese nation has made the great leap from standing up to getting rich to becoming strong — the realisation of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has now entered an irreversible historical process.

The meeting pointed out that the whole party [with all its members] must bear in mind that the [Party] was born into a dangerous world, and that [now as it was in the past] complacency will spell its doom. [We] must always remember to constantly think ahead, prepare for dangers in times of safety, and continue to drive the new great enterprise of party construction in the new era. We must adhere to the strict governance of the Party in all aspects; forever maintain that flesh-blood tie with the people; practice the people-centered development ideology; constantly realise, maintain and develop the fundamental interests of the broadest masses; and unite and lead the people of all ethnicities across the country to unceasingly struggle for a better life.
